Guide to Buying a Mattress

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS WHEN BUYING A MATTRESS:

Read our guide to buying a mattress. When buying a mattress there are many things to take into consideration.  The purchase of a mattress is probably one of the most important purchases you will ever make for your home.  You spend 1/3 of your life in bed, so it is important to find a mattress that will give you the best night’s rest.

Most people take their mattress for granted without giving much thought to how it impacts their daily lives.  Those hours of sleep every night are very important to your overall health.  Your body needs those hours of rest to regenerate, rejuvenate and reinvigorate.

If you have a mattress that is not supporting your back properly you will not get a good night’s rest.  Instead of waking up feeling refreshed you may wake up feeling tired and stiff.

A MATTRESS NEEDS TO PROVIDE SUPPORT AS WELL AS COMFORT:

When you are shopping for a mattress the most important things to look for are support and comfort.

As to support.. it is very important that your spine remain in proper alignment during those hours that you are sleeping.  A mattress should provide proper support for your back without causing discomfort to any other parts of your body.

The comfort factor is equally important.  You want the mattress to be flexible enough in all the right spots so as not to put pressure on your shoulders and hips.

A mattress that is too soft or too firm will not give your back the proper support.  When you find a mattress that provides the support to keep your back properly aligned and at the same time has the flexibility to keep your shoulders and hips comfortable this mattress would be a good fit for you.  This is a mattress that will offer you many years of restful sleep.

CONSIDER VARIOUS MATTRESS TYPES AND THEIR CONSTRUCTION:

You should familiarize yourself with the different types of mattresses available, along with their construction.

Innerspring Mattresses:
Most of the mattresses sold in the United States are Innerspring mattresses. This type of mattress features interior coil construction.

Innerspring mattresses typically giving the mattress a bit more bounce. This type of mattress is rated very high due to the excellent support provided for your back.

Memory Foam Mattresses:
Memory foam conforms very well to your body.  However, memory foam tends to retain heat, making it sleep much hotter.

For this reason, most manufacturers have added a top layer of cooling gel to keep you more comfortable while you sleep.
